On the hills of Lantau Island, the Big Buddha Hong Kong statue is one of the city’s most famous sights. You can either take the cable car or walk there. The cable car is the best option as you can enjoy the beautiful mountain and the sea around. The cable car is wheelchair accessible, with the same level entry and plenty of space to accommodate large power wheelchairs. The Budha Statue has 268 steps and is not wheelchair accessible. Ngong Ping Village is accessible, including the shops and restaurants.

Lakshman Jhula is a landmark iron suspension bridge over the holy river Ganga at Rishikesh. This is a very old bridge and this bridge connects Tehri Garhwal to Pauri Garhwal. There are lots of mischievous monkeys waiting to get some bites from the tourists. Lakshman Jhula also offers a panoramic view of the river Ganga and Rishikesh city. Chotiwala is a famous vegetarian restaurant which is known for the ponytailed person sitting at the entrance.

This place is not at all Wheelchair Friendly. The Roads are very bumpy and very hard to negotiate.

Pasighat is a town located in the East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh. It takes around 2-3 hours from Dibrugarh to reach Pasighat. The journey itself is a pleasant one with lovely views of the river Brahmaputra from Bogibeel Bridge and distant hills as we approach our destination. The Ranaghat Bridge located in Pasighat is a popular stop for photography lovers as one can capture the bluish Siang River and hills surrounding from three sides. The roads are smooth, the weather pleasant as well, making it a perfect idyllic weekend road trip. One can even enjoy dipping their feet in the cold river, while sitting on one of the many rocks, and have a picnic with friends and family. The car can be parked just a few meters from the river. The entire trip is wheelchair-friendly.

Kaziranga National Park, located in the picturesque North-East India is famously known to be the home to the one-horned Rhinoceros. Various hotels and resorts are available for a comfortable stay and booking a safari for the next morning is not much of a hassle. A morning jeep safari through one of the ranges of the National Park offers not just visual delights, but also a chance to see groups of various animals, drinking water, staring at the passers-by and even meekly hiding behind the bushes. The Elephant safaris (they begin as early as 4-5 am!) ensure a closer look, as one can see the Rhinos walking relatively closer, sometimes in unison with the Elephants.

When it comes to wheelchair accessibility, Elephant rides can be challenging. But with a little help in hopping in and out of the jeep, one can experience the fun trail through the forest. If one is lucky enough, the one-horned Rhinoceros can be seen from the highway itself! (There have also been instances of Traffic jams just because Elephants wanted to take a stroll on the highway!)

Valley of Flowers National Park is an Indian national park. This is near to Badrinath (a holy Hindu temple dedicated to Vishnu) in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand State. This place has floral pastures, running streams and beautiful backdrop of the mountains.It is a pleasant walk for amateur trekkers and a palette of colors- red, lavender, white, yellow to look for. Govindghat is the starting point of the trek and the distance is roughly 15km on one side. Pony service is also available. You can also visit Sri Hemkund Sahib a Sikh pilgrims. Once you reach the gurdwara, there is a small pond outside where you can take a dip.

Velavadar, Blackbuck National Park is situated in the Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. The sanctuary was established in July 1976, the park is located around 42 km from the city of Bhavnagar. Hugging the coasts of the Gulf of Khambhat on the south, it is spread over an area of 34 Sq-km, which was primarily a grassland of the maharaja of the princely state of Bhavnagar for hunting the blackbucks with his famous hunting cheetahs. The best time to visit the sanctuary is early in the morning when chances of seeing the wolves are a lot more. In the day, the blackbucks are easy to spot but the wolves are elusive. The pale gold grassland is dotted with clusters of blackbucks. They move around in gendered groups – the males together, and the females and fawns in their own group.

Dashashwamedh ghat is one  of the oldest and the most sacred ghats in the holy city of Varanasi. This place is most famous for its Ganga aarti which is an elaborate and lively ceremony that takes place at dusk everyday. Devotees float small diyas on leaf platters in the river as an obeisance to the holy Ganga. As the sunlight recedes, the lamps flowing in the water make for an unforgettable sight. This ritual can be watched from the ghat or boats. The narrow “Gally” reaching to the ghats are very uneven and not wheelchair accessible. All  hotels in the Riverbanks hotels are situated in narrow Gally where wheelchairs can hardly go. Hotels on the other side of Riverbanks have a better accessibility. The ghats have steps but no handrails.The passageways are always blocked with unwanted vehicles which makes the movement of wheelchair difficult.

Floatel kolkata is a floating hotel in Kolkata with breathtaking views of river Ganges and Howrah bridge. It has a multi-cuisine open air restaurant and bar overlooking the River. The most difficult part for a wheelchair user is, this place has very steep stairs at the entry. There is an elevator to go up. The bridge connecting the floating hotel is also not safe for wheelchair. The bridge becomes very steep when the water level rises . There are people to help but still not recommended for wheelchair.

Mussoorie is a hill station in the state of Uttarakhand in India. It is really fun walking on the roads while enjoying the beautiful view. I felt bad when my father couldn’t join us on this trip. He is old and suffering from muscular dystrophy. If only a wheelchair is made accessible for senior citizens, it would be really nice and helpful for old parents to accompany their children on fun trips.

Prinsep Ghat is located on the banks of River Hooghly in Kolkata. This place is famous for its architecture of Greek inlays with the 2nd Hoogly Bridge in the backdrop. The ghat has beautiful lawns and gardens with tall trees and flower beds. There are food stalls near the ghat that sell delicious local snacks. Just grab a bite and enjoy the sunset at Princep Ghat. This place is completely wheelchair accessible from the gate. There is a little step at the gate. If you ask the guard at the gate, he normally allows the car to enter which is otherwise pedestrian-only.
